Obituary of Carol Ann Doherty

Carol Ann Doherty of Saint John passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Moncton on May 23, 1939, she was a daughter of the late William and Beulah (Gibson) Doherty. Carol was a graduate of Simonds High School, Modern Business College, and the Ontario Bible College. She worked for several years as an office clerk for Canadian National Railways, retiring in 1994. She was an avid world traveler, who took many trips to far away places including Uganda and Guatemala, as well as many cruises. Throughout her lifetime, she sponsored many children through World Vision, and locally was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels, the Saint John Regional Hospital, and the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home. She was a very active member of Main Street Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years, and was an intricate part of the church family. Carol is survived by her brother, Bill Doherty (Debbie) of Allison, NB; nieces Megan Doherty and Bronwyn Doherty; a grand niece, Jennifer Chorney; aunts Mary Barrett, Marjorie Halliday, and Mary Mair; and several cousins. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM from RiverCross Church, 61 Forbes Drive, Saint John (formerly Main Street Baptist Church). Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the HOPE Mission or the North End Food Bank would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers.
