Obituary of Michael G. Mackin

Peacefully on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 Michael Mackin MD, CCFP passed at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his family at his bedside. Michael was born in Saint John, NB on September 28, 1958. He was the first-born child of Gregory and Mary (Horgan) Mackin. He grew up in East Saint John with his parents and three siblings Kathy, Kevin and Mark. He received his early formative education in East Saint John. He graduated from Simonds High School in 1976. Upon graduation he attended the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, graduating with Bachelor of Science with Honors in 1980. He continued his education in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University in St. John’s, NL, graduating with a Medical Doctorate Degree in 1984. He was awarded his Certificate from the Canadian College of Family Medicine and received his C.C.F.P. (Certificate in Family Medicine). He was a member of the Teaching Faculty of Family Medicine for Memorial University and Dalhousie University for numerous years. Mike was a well-respected physician both by his peers and his patients. He made housecalls, worked weekly in the Cardiac Surgical Unit from its inception, and worked in the Emergency and Palliative Care Departments. He resided in Rothesay with his immediate family Dr. Connie Robinson and their three sons Matthew, Joshua and Christian. His three siblings Kathy Hogan (Michael), Kevin Mackin (Louise), Mark Mackin (Brenda), his parents, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and six nephews, all of whom reside in Saint John, survive him. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ron Robinson. In his spare time he enjoyed carpentry, building three beautiful oak desks for his sons, which they will cherish. He and his closest friend, Frank built decks, and sheds. He had many wonderful family trips to California, Florida, Caribbean, Alaska and numerous areas in Canada together. Many great memories will be forever remembered at Disney World. His wit, humor and smile were evident to the end. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 2:00 PM from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay.
