Obituary of Leo Joseph Cyr

It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Leo J. Cyr, beloved husband of Bertha E. (Smith) Cyr on February 5, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Caraquet, NB on May 2, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Melina (Guignard) Cyr. Besides his loving wife, he will be greatly missed by his daughter, Judy (Wayne) Pollock and their children Jeffrey (Vanessa) Pollock and Jennifer (Troy) Elliott; son, Tom (Deb) and his children Alyssa Lane and Jason Cyr; son, Wayne (Debbie) and their children Lisa DeBow, Angela (Troy) McVicar, and Gregory (Candace) Cyr; great-grandchildren: Marcus Pollock and Emma and Drew Elliott, Megan and Jenna McVicar, Liam and Sophie Cyr, and Kayla Pascoe. Leo is survived by his brother, Leonard (Mary Lou) Cyr, sister-in-law Valerie Cyr, and many nieces and nephews. Leo was also predeceased by his sister Gladys Rowe and brother-in-law Gordon; brother James and sister-in-law Esther, and brother Peter Cyr. He worked at the Telegraph Journal as circulation manager for the Province for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He loved boating and he and Bertha spent many happy hours cruising the Saint John and Kennebecasis Rivers. Leo was a man of very strong faith, had a great sense of humour, and enjoyed a good joke especially if delivered by his niece, Marilyn Cook. We would like to extend a special thank you to Father Ralph McRae for his kindness and comforting words at a most difficult time. We will miss you greatly, dear husband, Dad, grand-dad, and great-grand-dad, and until we meet again, Rest in Peace. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 7-9pm & Friday, February 8, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Reception to follow at Brenan’s Funeral Home.
