Obituary of Verna A. Thompson

With her daughter at her side, the death of Verna Thompson, wife of the late James D. Thompson occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 20, 2012. She was born on May 20, 1920 in Saint John to the late Alfred and Alma (Thorne) Buckle. Verna was a graduate of Saint John High School and Saint John Vocational School Business Program. She was very faithful to her church, which was a big part of her life; being a member of Silver Falls United Church, life member of the UCW and the Silver Falls Quilters. Verna was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star Fundy Chapter #34, Fundy Bay Senior Citizens, Federal Superannuates Saint John Branch (FSNA) and the Beaus and Belles Square Dancing Club. Verna is survived by her daughter, Barbara Thompson of Fredericton; two nephews: Steven and David Thompson and several cousins. Besides her husband and parents, Verna was predeceased by two sisters: Muriel Thompson and Mabel Lawton. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in Old Cedar Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Silver Falls United Church or the charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
