Obituary of Becky McNally

It is with great appreciation of a life well lived that the family of Victoria Elizabeth McNally “Becky” announces her passing on February 13, 2020, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro, Nova Scotia. Victoria Elizabeth McNally (Morrissey), wife of the late Howard James McNally, formerly of South Bay, NB, was born in Grand Falls, NB, on May 2, 1920.  She was the loving daughter of the late John and Alice (Cote) Morrissey.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister, Becky will be lovingly remembered by her sons: John (Anita) McNally of Saint John, Morris (Sue) of Gold River, BC; daughters Hilda (Richard) Hunt of Stewiacke, NS, and Marian (Bruce) Langhus of Gagetown, NB, and Carol McNally of Saint John; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Howard, she was predeceased by brothers: Edward (Ned), Jack, Otis and Fred and by sisters: Mary Deschene, Annie Gagnon, Effie Gauvin, and daughter Marjorie.

Becky was happy to work all of her life as wife and mother and, for many years, cooked for woods crews in central New Brunswick. For the 15 years she volunteered at Ridgewood Veterans Wing in Saint John. Becky made a countless number of quilts for the Romero House in Saint John and the L’Arche Group House. She knit and organized other craftswomen to make blocks for lap quilts for the Red Cross. She also knit hats and finger puppets for newborns.

She was active with the CWL at Saint Rose Church for over 50 years. She will be greatly missed by her community at the Monsignors Riley Center in Saint John where she lived for 10 years before living with her caring daughter, Hilda Hunt, in Truro, Nova Scotia for her last two and a half years.  Friends and family will attest to the benefits of her devotion to the Rosary.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd, Saint John, NB (634-7425) with visitation on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 9:30-11 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Spirit Parish (St. Rose of Lima worship site, 541 Milford Rd, Saint John) at 12:00 pm with Rev. Michael LeBlanc officiating.
