Dear Rob, Wendy and Doug,
Very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I suppose there are few people who leave a truly lasting impression on young people as they grow and develop. Al was certainly one of those. Wolf cubs, scouts, little league baseball and countless other community events all benefitted from his involvement and direction. Every community should be so fortunate as to have an Al Thompson. I believe the last time I saw him was at my mom's funeral. He not only came to pay his respects but was excited to show us some old photographs of teams the Alderman boys were part of. A special moment for me and another example of how some people know small gestures have meaningful impact.
My sincere condolences to you and your families.

Dear Doug and Dana, Rob and Iris, Wendy and Stephen, Myrna and all - Mark and I are so sorry to hear of Al's passing. Your dad was so very special to us, our family and, indeed, our entire community. From the time we were children, I remember him always being encouraging and supportive. He made everyone, big and small, feel welcome and important. Every time I run into him he is bursting with a positive energy, twinkling eyes and a contagious chuckle. I will miss him, as so many people will. Al was a such a special man and the world could use more like him.
We want you to know how sorry we are that we could not connect at the funeral home during visitation. It is hard enough to grieve at the best of times, and I am sure that you are finding it even more difficult with the complications of Covid restrictions. We are unable to extend comforting hugs to you right now but please know that so many prayers and much love are being sent your way.
Blessings to each of you.

Myrna and family sorry to hear of Al's passing. Al was a great member of Westfield from the fire and ambulance service to the scouting organization, which is where I had met him. Al was one of my leaders who taught myself and many others in the Westfield cubs/scouts how respect yourself and others ,be kind , have fun . achieve your goals you set and of course "be prepared". Simply put Al was a great man and role model. My condolences to Al's family

Al was a great role model. I met him through Scouting where he was always focused on youth development. Helping them to become great contributors to society. He was a great promoter, always focused on giving praise rather than getting any for himself. I hope to be able to make half of the contributions that he did in life. Condolences to Myrna and the rest of the family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I met Al on many occasions as a Cub Scout and Scout. I could always see the pride he held in the community and the work he was willing to put in an any event. Seeing him around always brought a smile on my face, to be so vibrant and active well in to his 90s. He will be missed sorely by all who knew him well, but also by the broader community that benefited from his good works.

I am very sorry to hear of Al's death. He was my Little League coach in the late 60's and even though i was only a summer resident he treated us all the same. Later i had the privelege of reconnecting as he was Before the Mast's biggest fan in Westfield area and often seen at our shows. I think I last saw him when we "flash mobbed" his 90th birthday at River Centre!

To Al's family, I had the pleasure of knowing Al for over (50+) years, he always had a smile when he was working with the youth in the community, in baseball, hockey, and In Scouting, where we worked together in training, Jamborees, Campfires, and especially with the Venture aged Scouts. Watching him work with Youth of west Saint John and Westfield was a pleasure as he was a Mentor to so many of the Youth in the area. It was Blessing to know Al over the years and he will be missed. Thanks Al.
As we say in Scouting Al has gone Home.

My favorite memories of Al are when he participated in Remembrance Day activities with our Scouting community. 1st Westfield Scouts was privileged to have him share the importance of remembering our past to shed light on a better future. Always smiling. Always gracious.
I remember one of my sons asking if Al was "the real deal," a person who actually served in war time. When I told him yes, he then told some other Cubs that Al was "legit". Being legit is an enormous compliment coming from kids. They all nodded with reverence to Al. They then listened to Al with respect I cannot remember the exact year it happened, but I think that moment itself tops the list of my memories of Al..
May he rest in peace surrounded with love.

Condolences to all of Al's family.
Al shaped so many youths in a positive way during his years of service in the Scouting community. Few in this world today would have dedicated/sacrificed so much personal time to youth and young adults in service.
I can remember being a Scout and asking Al about his years of service and his awards, his reaction stuck with me in that it was not important to him, the recognition he received. He set the bar in what it meant to be a community leader and taught so many of us important life and outdoor skills. I am grateful I was able to learn from Al.
One of a kind.
