Obituary of David E. Laughlin

The death of David E. Laughlin, of 233 Roderick Row, Saint John West, husband of Elaine (Mallory) Laughlin, occurred on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of Alice (Gaines) Laughlin of St. Stephen, NB and the late William Laughlin. David graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1961, Teachers College and the University of New Brunswick (B.A., B.Ed.) and taught at Beaconsfield School for over thirty years prior to retirement. David was a Past President and active member of the Lancaster Kiwanis Club, former member of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club, the West Side Food Bank, and the Retired Teachers Association. He held the office of Secretary with the Saint John Lancaster P.C. Association for many years and served as Executive Assistant to Norman McFarlane while Norman was a cabinet minister in Provincial Legislature. David was a present member and former elder of St. Mark's United Church. Besides his wife and his mother he is survived by one daughter, Stephanie and her fiancée Brian Couturier of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Robert "Bob" (Sharon) Laughlin of Hamilton, ON; one sister, Ruth (Jim) Maxwell of Ottawa, ON and several aunts and uncles. Besides his father, he was predeceased by one daughter, Hillary in April of 2003. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425) with visiting on Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will be held at St. Mark's United Church, 50 Dexter Drive, Saint John West on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 1:00 PM. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances to the West Side Food Bank, Hospice of Saint John Inc., Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
