Obituary of Murray Felix Shannon

The death of Murray Felix Shannon of Saint John, NB, husband of the late Norma (Burley) Shannon, occurred on Monday, September 26, 2005 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John. Born in Saint John a son of the late Joseph and Geneive (Comeau) Shannon, Murray had served overseas with the Carleton York Regiment during World War II and following his discharge in 1946 was employed at the Port of Saint John and later with Consolidated Bathurst as a Truck Driver. Murray was a member of the Knights of Columbus and found enjoyment and peace watching the ocean. Survived by three sons, Bill (Rita) of Saint John, Michael (Lisa) of Westfield, NB and Roddy (Heather) of Saint John; four daughters, Brenda (Brian) Reid of Oromocto, NB, Deborah (Douglas) Johnson of Westfield, Marina (Arthur) Vandenberghe of Lepreau, NB and Theresa (Donald) Burgess of Westfield; one brother, Robert (Alida) of Saint John; one sister-in-law, Vivian Shannon of Saint John; sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews including two close nieces, Pat Hawkins and Mary Ann Wickins. Besides his wife and parents Murray was predeceased by grandson, Joey Vandenberghe; sister, Jean Hawkins and brother, Ronnie Shannon. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (506) 634-7425 with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Augustin's Church, Westfield on Thursday at 11 am, followed by cremation and private family interment at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kidney Foundation of Canada or a charity of the donor's choice.
