Obituary of Wilfred Hartte Sparks

The death of Wilfred Hartte Sparks of Saint John West, husband of Joanne (Todd) Sparks, occurred on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Samuel Hartt and Mary Constance "Connie" (Wallace) Sparks. Wilfred graduated from St. Malachy's High School in 1961 and the New Brunswick Ranger School in 1963. He was employed with Hughes Surveys in Saint John, Gordon Young in Fredericton and later JD Irving in Saint John as Land Purchasing Agent for many years before his retirement. Wilfred loved his work and his passion and greatest joy was spending time working in his wood lot. He loved the outdoors, the water and the many canoe trips with his friends. Wilfred enjoyed finding a great bargain and could often be found shopping at Frenchys, various flea markets and his favorite, the annual Sussex flea market. Mr. Sparks was a Scout Leader for many years at Holy Trinity Church. He loved spending time with family and his many friends that he constantly made over the years. He will be sadly missed. Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Anne Foley (Mark) of Saint John West, brother-in-law, John Todd of Springfield, NB, niece, Tammy McCarthy (Ken) of Smiths Falls, ON, two nephews, Thomas Sparks (Kelly Thompson) of Quispamsis and Andrew Foley (Mary-Ann) of Saint John, several cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by one brother, David Sparks. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Clarendon Street, Saint John on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
