Obituary of John Edwin McDonald

The death of John Edwin McDonald, husband of Rita Mary (Jackson) McDonald, occurred on Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John West, he was the son of the late Wilfred L. and Annie E. (Parnham) McDonald. John was a veteran of the 2nd World War and served with the 8th. New Brunswick Hussars overseas in the United Kingdom, Africa, Central Mediterranean and North Western Europe. He was formerly employed with the CPR for 18 years and the Federal Department of Public Works for 14 years before his retirement. He was a member of St. Matthew's Church, Grand Bay. John was a former member of the KBM Senior Citizens' Club, the Carleton Golden Age Club and the Martinon Golden Age Club. Besides his wife he is survived by his brothers, Eric of London, ON, and Leo of Nova Scotia; his sisters, Elaine McDonald of Kitchener, ON, Annie Hebert of Grand Bay, Cecilia McDonald of Kitchener, ON, Laura Lechine and Carol McDonald, both of Ottawa, ON; his granddaughter, Katherine Craig of Nepean, ON; his great-grandchildren, Sydney and Grace Craig of Nepean, ON; and several nieces and nephews. He loved his little friend, Molly. He was predeceased by his first wife, Louise (Lawson) McDonald; his daughter, Hildred Dines; his step-mother, Gladys McDonald, and his brothers, Harry and Wilfred. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute to a Veteran Service at 7:00 PM on Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 28, 2003, at 11:00 AM, from St. Matthew's Church, Grand Bay. Interment will take place at St. Augustine's Cemetery, Westfield. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
