Obituary of Captain Charles H. Stark

The death of Captain Charles H. Stark, husband of Lorraine (Cobham) Stark, occurred on December 22, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Dunmurry, County Antrim, Ireland, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Jane (Angus) Stark. He served during WW II with the Canadian Merchant Marine receiving the 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, the American Star and Clasp, the Italy Star CVSM and Clasp and the wartime Medal 1939-1945. He was employed as Marine Superintendent with Furness Withy before serving with the Canadian Coast Guard, Ship Safety Division, in Port Cartier, PQ, Saint John and Collingwood, ON, from where he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Beaver Lodge #234, Thorbury, ON, F&AM, 32nd Degree Member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the Rameses Temple AAONMS, Toronto, ON. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters E. Scott Fletcher and her husband Barry of Vancouver, BC, Jeannie L. Ralston and her husband Dr. Robert of Campbell River, BC, Clare Smith and her husband Allan of Saint John, Jacqueline Corey of Saint John, his brother Aubrey Stark and his sister Elizabeth Prosser both of Australia, four granddaughters and two grandsons, and several nieces and nephews including Captain Norman Stark of Vancouver. Three brothers Captain Stanley, Captain Norman and Robert and three sisters Ethel, Irene and Waller predeceased him. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road (634-7425), with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Although there will not be a funeral service, family and friends will gather on Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at 1:00 PM, at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery for Committal Prayers and the interment. Remembrances made to the charity of choice would be appreciated.
