Obituary of Arthur Finley

Finley A. Murray – The death of (Arthur) Murray Finley occurred on Sunday July 28, 2008 at The Ridgewood Veteran's Wing. Murray was born in Saint John on January 23, 1919 and lived all of his life as a "Westsider." He was the son of Frank and Alice Finley. Murray served in WWII as a Lieutenant Commander aboard the H.M.S. Kenya traveling to Scotland, Gibraltar and Africa as part of his convoy duty. Murray worked as a department manager in M.R.A.'s, Canadian Fairbanks Morse and McAvity's in Saint John and also owned The Finley's Treasure Chests china shops in Lancaster. Murray spent many years coaching his son Bill in hockey and managed the Lancaster Kiwanis Steel Band. He was an avid golfer at Westfield Golf Course in the 1960's and 1970's. He was a past president of the Lancaster Kiwanis Club, a member of the Lancaster Beautification Committee and a devoted member of the Lancaster Baptist Church. Murray was a great dad to his son, Bill and daughter in law, Sherry and a wonderful grampy to Shanlyn, Rachel and Ally. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Aileen, his parents and all of his brothers and sisters (Lillian, Louise, Herman, Alice, Ralph and Ernest). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Murray will be fondly remembered for his dry wit, kind spirit and gentlemanly ways. The family would like to thank Murray's niece, Karen Steen for all of her loving care at Ridgewood as well as all of the Ridgewood Staff for their compassion and kindness towards Murray and family. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday July 30, 2008 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Bay View Chapel at 10:00am on Thursday July 31, 2008. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In memory of Murray the family has requested contributions toward memorial trees which will be planted at the Westfield Golf Course; for those who wish, this may be done at the funeral home and would be appreciated by the family. www.bayviewfh.com
