Obituary of Joseph Blanchard

Surrounded by his family, Aurele Blanchard passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing on Monday, January 5, 2009. He was born in Bathurst, NB on November 15, 1915 to the late Edward and Pauline (Albert) Blanchard. He was a member of the Carleton York Regiment and the 1st Special Services Force (Devil's Brigade) serving in Italy during World War II. After the war, Aurele worked as a chartered accountant for Internal Revenue until his retirement. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Thelma (MacLeod); two sons: John (Jane) of Truro, NS and Marc (Betty Buchanan) of Gondola Point, NB; one daughter, Louise Belyea of Saint John, NB and eight grandchildren: Nathan, Jamie and Amanda Blanchard, Julie (Sonny) Urquhart, Joe (Sara) and Jana Blanchard and Michael and Matthew Belyea (Monica) and two great grandchildren: Alex and Ryan Urquhart. Besides his parents, Aurele was predeceased by three brothers: Benjamin, Wilford and Leo and two sisters: Margaret Blanchard and Mary Cormier. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A RCL tribute service will be held during visitation on Tuesday at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 12 noon. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
