Obituary of Bertha Henderson

Henderson, Bertha Marcella … The death of Bertha Marcella Henderson of Saint John West, NB, wife of the late Murray Henderson, occurred on May 14, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on January 17, 1916, she was a daughter of the late William G. and Annie (Long) Melanson. Bertha was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch # 69 RCL for over 60 years, she was Past Provincial President and Past Provincial Secretary of the Provincial Command; an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd where she had been a member of the Young Women's Guild, the Altar Guild and taught Sunday School for more than 30 years; a member of the Pythian Sisters for over 60 years, Past President of the Carleton Curling Club and a member of the Seniors Group at Hillcrest Village. She is survived by a son, James (Ruth) Henderson of Saint John; a daughter, Valerie (Loring) Green of Saint John; a brother, Harold Melanson of Saint John; daughter-in-law, Helen Henderson of Westfield, NB; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Murray; a son, Paul; two brothers, Alan and George Melanson; two sisters, Thelma Barnes and Elda (Melanson) Henderson. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd., Saint John (506) 634-7425 with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Bay View Chapel on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 11:00 am. Interment will be in The Church of the Good Shepherd Cemetery.
