Obituary of Lloyd Wilfred Parent

The death of Lloyd Wilfred Parent of the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home, 130 University Avenue, formerly of 441 Russell Hill Road, Saint John, N.B. occurred at his residence on February 5, 2004 after a period of failing health. Born in Saint John on July 8, 1919, he was a son of Coles W. Parent and Gladys (Ellingwood) Parent. Mr. Parent worked as a chemist at the Reversing Falls Pulp Mill and then for many years was employed as a stationary engineer by General Dairies and later Baxter Foods. He was a member of Hillcrest United Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and in various other capacities. He was also active with the Gideons and the Canadian Bible Society as well as other Christian organizations. He was always interested in technical and scientific developments and was an amateur radio operator (VE1TP). In later life he enjoyed the internet as well. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris (Rockwell) Parent and daughter Judy McLellan (Hugh) of Rothesay, N.B. He was predeceased in 2002 by daughter Lynn Cullinan (Brian), also of Rothesay. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Cathy, Dave (Karen), Lloyd (Kamini), Tom & Lynn McLellan and Justin & Dave Cullinan, as well as one great-grandchild, Helena McLellan; a sister Lois Carlson (the late Rev. Robert) of Rhode Island, a brother Rev. Hazen Parent (Hazel) of Bridgewater, N.S., a sister-in-law Shirley Smith (the late Rev. Lloyd) of Saint John and a number of nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West, N.B., with visiting on Sunday February 8, 2004 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m only. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 2:00 PM from the Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances to the Gideons, Canadian Bible Society and Hillcrest Baptist Church would be appreciated by the family.
