Obituary of Russell Richards

The death of Russell Richards of Central Greenwich, NB, husband of Marion (Johnson) Richards occurred on September 1, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Montreal, PQ, he was a son of the late, Stanley and Christine (Carr) Richards. Russell served in World War II, where he was stationed in Labrador, England, France and Holland; he was a Private with the NB Rangers. After the war, Russell worked for the Department of Natural Resources; he was a scalar for Irving Woodland for twelve years. Russell was a Life Member of the R.C.L Branch #87, Greenwich Branch where he served as Treasurer and 2nd Vice President for eighteen years; he was also a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Oak Point. Survived by his wife, Marion Richards; sons, Thomas (Brenda) and Donald (Phyllis) both of Central Greenwich; brother, Stanley (Barbara) of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; sisters, Eleanor Thompson of Fredericton, NB and Gwendolyn Murphy of Saint John; grandchildren, Brian (Trish), Robyn, Tina (Philip) and Jesse; step-grandchildren, Tamara, Ashley, Cortney and Brian; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Chloe, as well as several nieces and nephews. Russell was predeceased by his brother, Alan Richards. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Bayview Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, 634-7425. At Russell's request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Oak Point, on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Interment to take place in St. Paul's Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Shriner's Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.
