Obituary of Charles Finley

Finley, Charles Frederick – The death of Charles Frederick Finley of Nerepis, NB, husband of Frances Elizabeth (McEachern) Finley, occurred on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB on January 12, 1939, he was the son of the late Theodore and Stella (Gillett) Finley. Charles was retired from School District # 8 where he had been employed as Assistant Superintendent (Administration and Finance); he had previously been employed with Irving Oil and at the Dry Dock. Charlie was Past President of Lancaster Minor Hockey, Past President of The KBM, he coached Little League and Senior League Baseball, bowled for many years, Played ball with KBM Aces Old-timers and the Dry Dock Mets, and he was a volunteer board member of Credit Counseling of Canada. He enjoyed the camp on the East Branch of the Musquash and he loved carpentry and painting. He is survived by Frances, his wife of 49 years; three children, Ted (Maxine) Finley of Morrisdale, NB, Shelly (Charles) LaViolette of Nerepis and Scott (Deborah) Finley of Dacula, Georgia, USA; two sisters, Lois Goldie of Saint John and Marion (Gary) Garfield of Grand Bay – Westfield, NB; five grandchildren, Chelsea LaViolette, Luke Finley, Zachary Finley, Nicholas LaViolette and Leah Finley; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Jean Babineau; now he joins his best friend, Blue. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd., Saint John (506) 634-7425. At the request of the family there will not be any visitation at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held from Bay View Chapel on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 2:00 pm with a reception and Celebration of Charles' Life to follow at The KBM in Belmont. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, the NB Lung Association, Harbour View Choral Ensemble or any charity of choice. www.bayviewfh.com
