Obituary of Jean F. Bursey

The death of Jean F. Bursey, wife of the late Joe Bursey, of Mollins Drive, Saint John West, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Born in Devon, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Eva (Grant) Thomas. Jean had been a resident of Saint John for the past sixty-six years and was employed for over twenty-five years with the Royal Bank. She was a member of the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club and had volunteered with Meals On Wheels. Jean was treasurer of Synchro N.B. for many years, a member of the Canada Games Aquatic Center and St. Mark's United Church. She enjoyed all team sports, both playing, watching and coaching, particularly softball and basketball. She was a season ticket holder of the Saint John Sea Dogs. Jean didn't miss a game or dance recital in which her grandchildren were involved and her summer home in Chance Harbour was the center of many family gatherings over the years. She was predeceased by her son Stephen Bursey in 1997, a brother Roland Thomas and a sister Marlene McLenaghan. Jean is survived by two daughters, Nancy Bursey of Toronto and Pam Bursey (Tim Hamilton) of Quispamsis, daughter-in-law Judy Bursey (Mike Farrah) of Saint John West, one brother Richard (Dick) Thomas (Shirley) of Saint John East, three sisters, Marjorie Mizener of Hamilton, Ontario, Pat Hawkes (Ralph) of Hartland, N.B. and Wendy Chisholm of Dartmouth, N.S., sister-in-law Connie Thomas of Saint John West and brother-in-law Ralph McLenaghan of Millidgeville, two grandsons Joe and Will, a granddaughter Charlotte, one aunt Amelia Grant of Fredericton, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1462 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (506-634-7425) with visiting on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Mark's United Church on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Following the burial a reception will be held in the church hall. Donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital, Victorian Order of Nurses or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
