Obituary of Kathleen Joyce Arthurs

The death of Kathleen "Kay" Arthurs of Fairville, NB, where she lived most of her life on Harding Street, wife of the late Walter Arthurs occurred on Monday, December 7, 2009 at Turnbull Nursing Home. Born on August 24, 1911 at Swan Creek, she was a daughter of the late Charles Estabrooks and Winnifred (Hunter) Estabrooks-Ewing. Kay graduated as Psychiatric Nursing Assistant and was a receptionist at the Provincial Hospital. She was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School; the Genealogy Society; a life member of Rolanda Barss Women's Missionary Society and the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Kay was a lifetime volunteer of the Mental Health Society. Survived by one son, Donald V. Arthurs of Burlington, ON; two daughters, Barbara (Larry) Archer of Hampton, NB and Rosemarie (Bob) Kierstead of Saint John; nine grandchildren, Stephen Archer, Dianne Cox, Brian Archer, Judy Thomson, Andrew Kierstead, Carolyn Steeves, Don Kierstead, Reginald Arthurs and Kimberly Hellingwerf; twenty-two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Anya, Stephanie, Jennifer, Heather, Emily, Vicki, Sandy, Anna, Laura, John, Katie, Hannah, Luke, Jensa, Meghan, Matthew, Brittney, Sarah, Samantha and Cassandra; one great-great-grandchild, Judah Martin; one brother, Thomas (Flora) Estabrooks of Dartmouth, NS; two sisters, Marguerite Wheaton and Millie Fyfe both of Ottawa, ON. She is also survived by a special niece, Donna Wilson; Shirley Arthurs of Saint John and several nieces and nephews. Kay was a caring and thoughtful friend to all. Predeceased by one sister, Anne Dickinson. The family would like to thank the staff of the Turnbull Nursing Home for the excellent care that was given to our mother during the past few years. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Lancaster Baptist Church. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
