Obituary of David Duncan

Following a brief period of declining health, David Duncan III of Grand Bay-Westfield passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Ridgewood Veteran's Centre, with his family by his side. Born at Laurencekirk, Scotland on March 27, 1917, he was a son of the late David and Margaret (Stott) Duncan. David worked for Eastern Bakeries for 20 years before being employed with the City of Saint John, a job which he held for more than 25 years. A Veteran of World War II, David served in France, Italy, Germany, and Holland with the 1st Canadian Division of the 3rd Field Engineers. He was a member of the Grand Bay Baptist Church, and enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, and had the patience and skill to fix almost anything, no matter how long it took. David is survived by his children, David Duncan IV (Marvel) of Saint John; Bob Duncan (Sandra) of Rothesay, Gloria Griffin (Garry Campbell) of Concord, ON, John Duncan (Linda) of Rothesay, and Carol McAfee (Paul) of Summerville; grandchildren Terri-Lynn Cruickshank (Brian), Sean Griffin, Christopher Duncan (Marianne), Dana Duncan, Craig Duncan, Andrew Duncan, Scott Duncan, Andrea Gilbert (Kylie), Michael Duncan (Vanessa), Thomas D. Fournier (Brenda Biron), and Julie Fournier; great grandchildren Rachel and William Cruickshank, Riley and Bradley Duncan, Ryan and Jessica Gilbert, Maddison Duncan, Breana Biron-Fournier, Drew Neathway and Jordan Duncan; sisters Anne Estabrooks of Oakville, ON, Agnes Calhoun of Fredericton; a brother-in-law, Ray Boyle of Fredericton; a sister-in-law, Fran Duncan of Lake George; his care-giver, Carol Acheson; several nieces and nephews; and by his canine companion and best friend, Ozzie. David was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, A. Georgina (Arbo) Duncan; and sons Kenneth and Donald Duncan. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM from Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 PM from the funeral home.
