Obituary of Rita K. Harley

The death of Rita Kathleen Harley of Saint John, NB, occurred on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on October 15, 1916 in Saint John, she as a daughter of the late Michael E. and Jane (Sliney) Harley. Rita was a nurses' assistant in the operating room at the DVA Hospital for many years. She was a volunteer and an honorary member of the Board for the West Side Food Bank for 18 years. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the VON and volunteered to drive many cancer patients to the hospital for their appointments. Rita is survived by her sons, John "Jack" (Linda) of Saint John and Brian (Susan) of Cambridge Narrows, NB; sisters, Dorothy Sharkey of Saint John, Elizabeth Diduskok (Nicholas) of Neveda, USA and Frances Gutherie of Saint John; grandchildren, Paul, Sheri, Jeremy and John. Predeceased by her sisters, Evelyn Ritchie, Mary Stackhouse; brothers, Norman, Edward, Harold, Ronald, John and Gregory. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 12:00 PM from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Dufferin Row, Saint John. Interment to take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the West Side Food Bank or to Meals on Wheels.
