Obituary of Dorothy L. Pierce

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dorothy Pierce, wife of the late Frank J. Pierce (1980), which occurred on March 5, 2004, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Fairville she was the daughter of the late Frank and Sadie Flewelling. Her daughter Carol Ann Roberts predeceased her in 2000. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lou (Keith) McNulty and by Carol's companion Reg Robson. Mom attended Fairville Superior School and Saint John High School. She did book keeping for her father, who owned Westside Dairies; worked for Calp's Department Store; for lawyer Lyman Purnell and at the Finance Department of both the City of Lancaster and then the Saint John City after amalgamation retiring in 1984. After being struck by a car in 1986 she lived at home with caregivers and the last few years with Mary Lou and Keith until July 2003 when she went to live at the Carleton Kirk Nursing Home. Mom loved gardening, playing cards and traveling. She was very kind and enjoyed helping others. She was loving grandmother (Nanny) to Bruce (Kathy) Roberts; Carrie Roberts-Loeman; Jeremy McNulty (Kim); Jeff (Shannon) McNulty; and Kristy McNulty, and great-grandmother to Jamie; Stacy; Taylor; Cody; Jaden and Liam. She is also survived by her sister Winnie Blagden and John (Edna) Flewelling and her many nieces and nephews. Her sisters May Kierstead and Olive (Allingham) Pike predeceased her. A sincere thank-you to Dr. Douglas Brien who cared for Mom at home for the past 17 years. To the staff of 4BS who gave excellent care; their compassion will always be remembered. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road (634-7425), with visiting on Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2004, at 11:00 AM, from Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place at Good Shepherd Cemetery in the spring. The family would appreciate remembrances made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the VON or the Carleton Kirk Nursing Home.
