Obituary of Claud Joseph Paul Black

The death of Claud Black of Saint John, NB occurred on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Colette, NB, he was the son of Beatrice (Gaudet) Black and the late Leo Black. Claud was the Principal of Havelock Elementary School for 18 years until his retirement in 1988. He was also the Past President of the Saint John Teacher's Association and was a member of the Board of Directors of Saint John West CO-OP. He also volunteered at the Red Cross, CNIB, and St. Rose of Lima Parish Council. Claud was involved with the Saint John School Boys Hockey, Jaycees, Elections Canada, the Liberal Party and also with the Saint John Chess Club. Claud enjoyed woodworking and picture framing. He is survived by his wife, Elva (McInnis) Black, his sons: Peter (Kathy) Black of Halifax NS, Michael (Josée Gilbert) of Dieppe, NB, and Robert Black of Sydney, Australia; his is daughter; Carolyn (Michael) MacKay; brother, Gordon (Sheila Norquay) Black of Ottawa ON, sisters; Claudette (Lee) Winchester of Ottawa, ON, Rosemarie Keith of Vancouver, BC, Norma Black of Millcove, NB, May Black and Bettyann Young, both of Saint John, NB, grandchildren; Katie Black, Alex Black, Sophie Black and Nicolas Black. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Claud was predeceased by his brothers; Roger Black and Ellis Black, his sisters; Claudia Black and Shirley Black, and brother-in-law, John Keith. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd, Saint John, NB (506-634-7425) with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 12:00 PM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 541 Milford Rd, Saint John, NB. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the I.W.K, Dialysis Darlings of Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
