Obituary of M. Earl Kitchener MacDonald

Melvin "Earl" Kitchener MacDonald of Saint John, husband of the late Margaret Elsie MacDonald, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Ridgewood Veteran's Centre. Born at Kouchibouguac on January 24, 1917, he was a son of the late Farquhar and Mary Elizabeth (McIsaac) MacDonald. Earl was a Veteran of World War II, having served with the Engineers and the Medical Corps. Earl and his family moved to Saint John in 1960, where he worked as an electrician at Centracare. He attended St. Matthew's Presbyterian Church, and subsequently Grace Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and keeping his driveway clear in the winter months, and in his younger years was an avid hunter.  Earl is survived by his daughter, Beverly H. MacDonald of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Jean MacDonald; and being the last surviving member of his immediate family, was predeceased by siblings Alexander MacDonald, John MacDonald, infant twin brother and sister, James MacDonald, Hazen MacDonald, Ella Patterson, Austin MacDonald, Pearl Carter, Victor MacDonald, and infant Arthur Freeman MacDonald.  Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 12:00 Noon from Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
