Obituary of Herbert Henry Herman Eichmann

Herbert Henry Herman Eichmann of Saint John, husband of the late Erika (Riege) Eichmann, passed away on Tuesday, February 01, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Herb was born in Bremen, Germany on October 28, 1922, a son of the late Otto and Elisabeth (Schmidt) Eichmann, and immigrated to Saint John with his wife and young son in May, 1953, where he settled in Randolph and Dominion Park.. He worked at various jobs, including the Irving Oil Refinery, Prudential Insurance, Irving Pulp and Paper, and finally a lengthy career at Ocean Steel, retiring in 1991. As a proud Saint Johner and Canadian, Herb fully enjoyed what the area had to offer: music, photography, gardening, stamp collecting, sailing on the St. John River, travelling, and reading. As a patron of the arts, Herb attended Symphony New Brunswick from its first performance, until his health prevented him from doing so. He was actively involved in the community, being a past member of the Saint John Board of Trade as well as the Saint John Harbour Commission. He was a long time member of St. Mark's United Church, where he sang in the choir. Herb is survived by his sons, Hartwig (Linda) of Grand Bay-Westfield, and Timothy (Christina Evans) of Morrisdale; and granddaughters Paula, Amy, and Cristy. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by an infant son, Christian. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West, with visiting on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 4-8 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM from Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place at a later date in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.  For those who wish, remembrances to Symphony New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, or any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be offered at www.brenansfh.com.  Â
