Obituary of Reta Hannah Pender

The death of Reta Hannah Pender, wife of the late Walter Gordon Pender, occurred on April 16, 2004, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at New Jerusalem, NB, she was the daughter of the late William Heartly and Margaret (Bates) Douglas. She was a practical nurse and foster parent over the years and ran and owned various convenience stores. She was a member of the Greenwich Gems Senior Citizens, the Women's Institute, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #87 Ladies Auxiliary, Past President of the Foster Parents Association, and the Weaving School of New Jerusalem. She and her husband were founding members of the Greenwich Seniors Friday Night card parties. She is survived by her son Norman and his wife Fran of Brantford, ON, her daughters Margaret and her husband Mel Brown of Browns Flat, Marilyn and her husband Don Rollison of Strathmore, ALB, her sisters Annie Hossack of St. Stephen, Susie Hamilton of Lower Greenwich, Grace Lutes of Burlington, ON, her 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Freda Joyce. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road (634-7425), with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Ladies Auxiliary Service at 7:00 PM on Monday. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 1:00 PM, from Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Old Cemetery. Remembrances made to New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation or the charity of choice would be appreciated.
