Obituary of G. Suzanne Skidmore

 On March 2, 2011 after a short illness, Gertrude Suzanne Skidmore, daughter of Harold Hocken Ritchie and Gertrude Raymond Ritchie (Jones), widow of Lawrence C Skidmore, passed away at home. Suzanne was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick on Feb 20th, 1927 and lived her youth in Fredericton NB. She later moved to Grand Bay Westfield, and Newcastle NB, having returned to Grand Bay-Westfield twenty-five years ago. After graduating from Fredericton High School in 1944, Suzanne worked at NB Handicrafts in Fredericton until she married in 1949. After raising her family, Suzanne worked for the Miramichi Leader, and the Chatham Police in Miramichi.  Suzanne enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, lawn bowling in the summer, alley bowling in the winter and working in her garden. She had an avid interest and knowledge in antiques, never wanting to pass a yard sale or antique store. For many years, she owned and operated "Past and Present", her own craft/antique store from her home in Grand Bay. Suzanne was a past member of the Beautification Committee of Grand Bay Westfield, the Heritage Committee of Grand Bay Westfield and up to last year volunteered delivering meals on wheels for the past 15 years. This past year, Suzanne was instrumental in starting Seated Yoga for Seniors in Grand Bay Westfield.  Suzanne is survived by four children, Peter (Carol MacLean) of Saint John, Laurie Higgins (Boyd) of Carters Point, Roger (Laura Nichols) of Ottawa and Patricia, (Jim Touchbourne) of Grand Bay - Westfield, as well as seven grandchildren, Malcolm Hamilton, Melanie Hamilton, Laura Keniston, Matthew Skidmore, Kim Dow, Andrew Touchbourne and Louise Touchbourne, and seven great grandchildren, Kelsey, Shelby and MacKenzie Hamilton, Courtney and Travis Skidmore, and Malcolm and Madison Keniston. Suzanne is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Murray, Truro, Nova Scotia and Patricia Stothart, Ottawa, Ontario and special family friends, Jackie Armstrong and Joanne Skidmore, both of Grand Bay- Westfield. Suzanne was predeceased by her husband, parents and a brother Wendell Ritchie.   Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visitation on Friday from 2–4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will held from the Church of the Good Shepherd on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11 AM. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredericton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Anglo Society of New Brunswick or the charity of one's choice would be appreciated. Â
