Obituary of Owen Ray Saunders

Owen Ray "Skip" Saunders of Welsford, husband of Patricia Marie (Willauer) Saunders, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Armstrong's Corner on August 26, 1944, he was a son of the late Gordon and Gertrude (Smith) Saunders. Skip served with the United States Army in Vietnam, and was a proud member of Local 213 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He was a great outdoors enthusiast, who enjoyed spending time at his camp on Queen's Lake. In addition to his wife of 47 years, Skip is survived by two sons, Ron Saunders (Vickie) of Moncton and Jerry Saunders (Tracy McLeod) of Saint John; grandchildren Brady, Grace, and Emily; a brother, Wayne Saunders (Carol) of Brampton, Ontario; a sister-in-law, Linda Saunders (Carman Logan) of Clarendon; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Skip was predeceased by a brother, Glen Saunders. In keeping with Skip's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held at this time. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date, with interment in the Douglas Valley Community Cemetery.  For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Welsford Volunteer Fire Department would be appreciated by the family. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425).
