Obituary of Melda Margaret Campbell

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mother, Melda Margaret Campbell, which occurred on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Bobby's Hospice. Born in Moncton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Abel and Margaret (Hartnett) Thibodeau. Melda lived in Grand Bay-Westfield for over sixty years. Mom served with the Canadian Women's Army Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Later she worked at the DVA Hospital and Hartt Building Supplies. She was Past President of Bayview Branch # 22 of the Royal Canadian Legion, a charter member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, and at the time of her death, a Life Member of Bayview Branch # 22. In her spare time, Mom enjoyed traveling, camping at Wally's, and having fun with her Red Hat Sisters (the Kountry Kittens). Mom also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles, and was a keen dart player. Melda is survived by her children, Marlene Watson (Paul) of Saint John, Bruce Campbell (Lois) of Prince William, and Susan McDermott (Frank) of Grand Bay-Westfield; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Peggy Meko of New Jersey and Shirley Isnor of Woodstock; a step-son, Frank Campbell (Lorraine) of Grand Bay-Westfield; and several nieces and nephews. Melda was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Norman Campbell; companion Bert Coggins; sister Doreen Warren; two half-sisters, Irene Arseneault and Amelia Oulton; a half brother, Fred; a step-son, Ralph "Buster" Campbell; and a step-daughter, Norma Anderson. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Bobby's Hospice for their love and wonderful care of Mom and of us; to Ralph Johnson and Sue Ward of the Extra Mural Hospital, Mom's caregivers, who made it possible for Mom to stay home as long as she did; and to Karen Ring, Donna Wheaton, Millie DeRoche, and Linda LaPointe. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 2-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 12:00 Noon from Holy Trinity Church, Rockland Road. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Mom loved flowers, but remembrances to Bobby's Hospice would also be appreciated by the family. A Royal Canadian Legion Veteran's Tribute Service will be held on Wednesday at 7 PM at the funeral home.Â
