Obituary of D. G. Whittaker

The death of Derek George (Rik) Whittaker of Saint John, NB, husband of Kay (Doherty) Whittaker, occurred peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on April 12, 1929 in Montreal, to the late George and Clara (Bowden) Whittaker, Rik worked many years as an installer with Bell Canada before moving with his family, in 1974, to Saint John where he was employed with the NB Museum and Saint John Tourism. His years serving as a warden at The Church of the Good Shepherd allowed him to contribute the skills accumulated through a life-long love of working with his hands - skills that would serve many and bring Rik great personal satisfaction. Besides his wife, Rik is survived by son Stephen (Lillian) and daughter Valerie Walsh (Steve Fowler) both of Saint John and son Peter (Sylvie Dupras) of Ottawa, grandchildren Chris Walsh (Suzy Kimball) of Brooklyn, NY, Amy (Gilles) Daigle, Anastasia Whittaker (Thomas Frauley) and Amanda Whittaker (Rick Sangalang), all of Saint John and Gabrielle Whittaker of Ottawa, and the great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy over the past few years. Madison, Isabelle and Christian will dearly miss their poppa 'GG'. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Tuesday February 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from The Church of the Good Shepherd, 668 Manawagonish Road on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 at 2:00 PM.
