Obituary of Calvin Herbert Griffith

Calvin Herbert Griffith passed away peacefully, with his children at his side, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness on March 4, 2012. Born May 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles W. Griffith and Edith E. (Chapman) of Saint John, New Brunswick. He was raised as a West Sider and worked his entire life for C. P. R. Railways and C. N. Marine, retiring early to become the caregiver of his wife, Helena, of 55 years. Calvin enjoyed his family first and foremost; camping adventure, fishing, other hobbies and dancing and, most of all, HIS GRANDCHILDREN!  Family gatherings and reunions were a must with much music and food. He also spent time with his ceramic studio being an active member of the board for the K.B.M. Outing Association for over 60 years; also a member of the Masonic lodges and Legion #53.  He was predeceased by his wife, Helena (Fortune), parents, brothers, Wesley and John; sisters-in-law, Eileen McCluskey (John); Katherine Fortune; Ethel Griffith (Blanc); Eleanor (Fortune) Searle (Bill); brothers-in-law, John McCluskey, Walter Fortune, Joseph Fortune, Charles Fortune (June Bell) and mother-in-law, Lena (LaTullipe) Fortune and father-in-law, John Edward Fortune.  Calvin is survived by his daughters, Patricia Jo-Anne Griffith (McGuire), Grant (Richard), Beatrice Eileen Griffith-Humble (James), his son. Calvin Arthur Griffith (Heather Steeves); grandsons Robert McGuire (Candace); Andrew McGuire (Emma); Charles Griffith (Tina Crossman) and Devon Griffith (Mark Robichaud); granddaughters, Beejay Humble (Julia Johnson); Tressa McIntyre (Chris Mattheson) and Trisha Leger (Matthew); great-grandchildren, Rayanne, Benjamin, Chloe, Kailie, Seth, Alan, Dayna, Natasha, Nathan, Kalli, Tyler-Joe, Kaia, Natalia, Allison, Lilly and Evan.; sister, Florence (Duncan) McGeachy; brother, Ernest (June) Griffith; sisters-in-law, Lillian Fortune and Gertrude LeRoy; brother-in-law, William Searle; several cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, New Brunswick with visitation on Wednesday, March 7, from 2-4 & 7-9 and Thursday, March 8, from 2-4 & 7-9. The funeral service will be held on March 9 at 10:00 am at Brenan's Bay View Chapel  (506-634-7425) with interment at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Manawagonish Road. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit 3BN Folding Chair or Garden Funds or to a charity of the donor's choice.
