Obituary of Dorothy Campbell

Campbell, Dorothy Elizabeth – Dot Campbell passed away peacefully on April 14, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with her family beside her. She was born July 15, 1929 to Oscar and Telania Akerley and with her sister Shirley, grew up in the south end of Saint John. Dot was an outgoing, fun-loving young woman with many friends. She loved a good conversation and could talk up a storm. In 1947 she met and fell in love with Earl Campbell. They were married in 1949 at Trinity Anglican Church. She and Earl worked hard, raised seven wonderful children and were blessed with 9 grandchildren. Dot became a skilled pharmacist's assistant at Selick's Pharmacy at the corner of Sydney and Princess Streets for many years while raising the family. Dot had an unending love of family and while there was hard work, there was also a lot of fun. Square dancing with the Beaus and Belles took her to various parts of the Maritimes. The old family VW bug got a lot of use on visits to the country and local beaches. In later years, arthritis slowed her down but she had a great love for animals and plants and was an active member of the Kindness Club. She loved to grow orchids. Dot was a member of Philip A. Jerguson Chapter # 18, Order of the Eastern Star and St. Marks United Church. In later years she and Earl travelled extensively, including trips to Canada Life Conventions in Hawaii, Bermuda, Florida and Portugal as well as many conventions of the United Commercial Travelers. In 1968 the family moved from the South End to the West Side, living on Sunset Drive and Manchester Avenue. She is survived by her husband Earl, her children Jude (Claude Mongeon), Rick (Muchima), Diana (Stephen Alexander), Carol (Francis Hebert), Lawrence (Susan Devine), Alan (Mary Hogan) and Ian (Rhonda Wood). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and her grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and sister, Shirley who lived with her family in Moncton. The family extends sincere thanks to the Doctors and Nursing Staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital for their kindness and love during Dot's time there. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visitation on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 3-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Bay View Chapel on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11 am. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby's Hospice or the Shriner's Hospitals would be appreciated by the family.
