Obituary of Lionel Joseph Doiron

Lionel Joseph "Leo" Doiron of Grand Bay-Westfield, husband of the late Lorraine Ann (Moore) Doiron, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Acadieville, NB on April 26, 1930, he was a son of the late Marcel and Elizabeth (Legacy) Doiron. Leo was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, being among the first members in Cypress, and was also stationed in Germany. He also worked with the Canadian Provost Corps, and then with Ports Canada Police, from where he retired in 1987. Leo was an active member of St. Augustine's Parish, where he served on Parish Council, and was a member of Branch 87 of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Canadian Provost Corps, and was a District Commissioner for Scouts Canada in Quebec. In his spare time, Leo enjoyed painting and puttering, and was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved fishing. Leo is survived by his children, Bruce Doiron (Guilda Bernier) of Fredericton, Patrick Doiron (Mary Miles) of Montreal, QC, and Lynn Doiron (Scott Smith) of Chute-à -Blondeau, ON; grandchildren Derek, Pamela, and Jessica; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Leo was predeceased by brothers, Armand, Napoléon, Télesphore, Clifford, and Hector; sisters Alexina Johnson, Agnes Deveau, and Elvina Doiron; and two infant siblings. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, and Monday, April 23, 2012 from 9-11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Augustine's Church, Westfield, on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place in St. Augustine's Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com. A Royal Canadian Legion Veteran's Tribute Service will be held on Sunday at 7 PM at the funeral home.
