Obituary of Ruth Mary Redding

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ruth Mary (nee Rock, formerly Bean) Redding at the age of 93 years in Saint John, N.B. on June 5, 2012. Born in Bridgetown, N.S., the only daughter of Leonard and Grace Rock, she moved to Saint John, N.B. in the 1930's where she married Bernard C. Bean, by whom she was predeceased in 1982. She later married J. Malcolm Redding, who survives her after 30 happy years together. Ruth's favourite pastime was being in the company of her family and friends. She thrilled in the adventure of travel, the delight of music and the enjoyment of cooking and baking. With a ready smile for everyone she met, she had a wonderful gift of hospitality and touched those around her with it. Ruth also applied her joy in helping others by participating in various memberships and committees, including a lengthy involvement with The Women's Symphony, the N.B. Festival of Music and the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, for whom she traveled, organized, chaperoned, billeted and baked. For several years she curled at St. Andrew's Curling Club. An extremely devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her beloved husband J. Malcolm Redding; daughter Barbara Puxley (Brian) of St. John's, Nfld.; sons David C. Bean (Joyce) of Sussex Corner, N.B. and Robert L. Bean (Pamela) of Calgary, Alberta; her stepchildren Mary Sangalang (Manny) of Lewiston, Maine, Linda Lewell (Ken) of Saint John, N.B.  and John Redding (Sherry) of Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren Mary Jane and Peter Puxley, Alison and Steven Bean, Craig and Andrew Bean, Ellen Harding and Andrew Sangalang; great- grandchildren Anna Ruth, Aida, Jeannie, Sarah, Jacob, Tyler, Michael, Cory, Grace, Madison, Matthew and Cameron. Predeceased by her first husband and two brothers, Albert and Arnold Rock. She will be greatly missed by us all. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West, N.B. (634-7425) and although, by Ruth's request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home, friends and family are welcome to attend a funeral service which will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from Brenan's Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery on Monday, June 11, 2012. For those who wish, donations may be made to Bobby's Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the exceptional care and kindness given by the staff and volunteers at Bobby's Hospice and to Ruth's caregivers from Joan's Home Support.
