Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Campbell

CAMPBELL, Mary Elizabeth (Betty)- 86, of Saint John, NB passed on July 5th, 2012 at Bobby's Hospice. Born on August 27th, 1925 in Collingwood, Ontario, Mrs. Campbell was the daughter of the late Dr. James Alexander Smith and Mary Eleanor (Jardine) Smith of Creemore, Ontario. Mrs. Campbell graduated in 1946 from The General & Marine Hospital in Collingwood, Ontario. Dedicated to both the nursing profession and to those in need of nursing care and assistance, she was an active practitioner for 45 years in the Province of Ontario, with the Canadian Forces (Army) at various bases, in Saint John and Moncton hospitals and for 21 years with the Victorian Order of Nurses in Fredericton and Saint John. While Mrs. Campbell retired from the VON in 1991, she continued volunteering with the VON Foot Clinics taking care of others until the day before she diagnosed with cancer in May of 2012. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her husband of 55 years, H. Keith Campbell of Saint John, one sister-in-law Gertrude Smith, of Collingwood, Ontario; two brothers-in-law Ronald E. Campbell, of Fredericton and Laurance C. Campbell, of Charlottetown, PEI. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins. Mrs. Campbell was predeceased by two brothers Donald Smith (Louise Burg) and Ross Smith, by two sisters Isabel Downey (Kenneth) and Margaret Mason and by her sister-in-law Millicent Campell, of Charlottetown, PEI. A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at Brenan's Bay View on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 2pm.
