Obituary of Douglas William MacDonald

It is with deepest sadness and regret to announce the sudden death of Douglas William MacDonald, beloved husband of Debbie (Mills) and father of Kimberley, on Saturday, October 12, 2002, while on business in China. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late William and Eleanor (Hatfield) MacDonald. Doug was a graduate of Summerside High School, PEI, and Mount Allison University. He was employed with Connors Brothers Ltd., as a Quality Control Laboratory Manager, for the past 23 years, was a former board member and most recent a Technical Support member of the South West Waste Commission. Doug will be sadly missed by the sporting community, a member of the Royal Fast Pitch ball team in the 80's, hew was the 13th Captain of the TSA Riverboat Curling Classic and a member of the Wade Blanchard's Provincial Labatt Tankard Championship Team, who went on to represent New Brunswick in the 1986 Brier, in Kitchener-Waterloo. He was a member of the Carleton Curling Club and a past member of Thistle St. Andrew's Curling Club. Actively involved in slow pitch, the Moosehead Men's Basketball League, past member of the East-West Suburban Hockey League and had a great passion for golf. In the 1970's he played soccer for Mount "A" University and represented Prince Edward Island in the Canada Games. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by three brothers, Rick (Linda) of Miramichi, Tom (Paula) of Oromocto and Jack. He was a special brother-in-law to Betty (Gerald) Mennie of Bedford, NS, Sandra Colwell of Maple Ridge, BC, John Mills of Edmonton, AB, Margaret Davidson of North Sydney, NS, Barbara (John) Palmer of Saint John, Bertie Cawley of Saint John and James Mills of Burlington, ON, Lucky (pet cat), best friends, Joe and Debi McEachern and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and an extended family of friends. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (506-634-7425), with visiting on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 1:00 PM. Remembrances to St. Luke's Church Building Fund, Romero House Soup Kitchen or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
