Obituary of Berton Robert MacKenzie

It is with great sadness that the family of Bert MacKenzie of Quispamsis, husband of Mildred H. (Fraser) MacKenzie, announce his death which occurred peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Corn Hill, NB on March 18, 1920, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth (Gourley) MacKenzie. Bert was a proud veteran of WWII, who served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Most of his working career, Bert was employed in the construction industry and was a loyal employee of Modern Construction Ltd. for several years. He went on to successfully own and operate his own construction business called MacKenzie Building Contractor Ltd. Bert was a lover of nature and received much enjoyment from feeding the backyard birds and squirrels; as well as admiring the deer. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and camping. Bert was faithful member of Quispamsis United Church. Besides his loving wife of nearly seventy years, Mildred, Bert is also survived by his son, Robert “Bob” (Arlene) of Quispamsis; sister, Lillian O’Blenis of Salisbury; grandchildren, Bonnie (Jeff), Rob and his children Ben and Amy, Tony (Tracey) and their children Aiden, Riley and Brooke; brother-in-law, Arlie Ganong of Kingston; as well as several nieces and nephews. Bert was predeceased by seven sisters and three brothers. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012, from Quispamsis United Church, 372 Hampton Road, Quispamsis, at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens, Saint John. For those who wish, donations may be made to Quispamsis United Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
