Obituary of Donna Short

With sadness for our loss, but with great appreciation for a life well-lived, the family of Marjorie “Donna” Short, loving wife of the late John M. Short, announces her passing on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at her residence in Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born March 16, 1928 in Newcastle, NB, she was a daughter of the late Allan and Laura (Muzzerall) MacKenzie.

Donna cherished her family, and spent a lot of her downtime knitting and singing along to Elvis. She would talk to anyone, and her great sense of humour will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Donna’s memory and spirit will live on through her daughters: Marjorie Fenwick of Quispamsis, Linda Nixon (David) of Calgary, and Jane Giggey (Scott) of Wickham; cherished grandchildren: Ken, David, Matthew, Michael, MacKenzie, Emma, and Matilda; many great-grandchildren; her sister, Sandra Wetmore, sister-in-law, Elizabeth MacKenzie; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, Donna was predeceased by her sisters: Connie, Jean, and Margie; brothers, Hubie and Buddy; and her son-in-law, Talmadge Fenwick.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ridgewood Veterans Wing for going over and above their call of duty, and for the support and friendship shown to Donna. Special thanks to John Beyea as well for being a wonderful neighbour. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm. Guests are asked to enter the front doors of the building to sign in for contact tracing, and are asked to observe all public health protocols, including social distancing, while inside the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel at 1 pm, with interment to follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
