Obituary of Norma Eileen Pougnet

It is with sadness that we announce the death of our dear mother, Norma Eileen Pougnet, wife of the late Robert M. Pougnet, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 31, 2017. Born on September 25, 1933 in Coles Island, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annabelle (Maskell) Viger. Norma attended the Washademoak School and Mount Carmel Academy in Saint John. For a short time she worked at Lubin’s Shoe Store and then stayed at home to raise her children. Norma was a faithful member of Holy Trinity CWL and was an active volunteer at Rocmaura Nursing Home. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends and loved to cook, knit and crochet for everyone. Norma is survived by her children: Eileen (Arthur) McQuade of Saint John, Robert (Joan Ann) of Grand Bay-Westfield and Andrew (Shelley) of Spruce Grove, AB; her grandchildren: Jilana and Danya Dube of Edmonton, Benjamin (Natalie) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Michael (Brittany Timberlake) of Quispamsis and Nicholas (Natalie Duplisea) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Lief and Holly Pougnet of Spruce Grove and great-grandchildren: Mason, Barrett and a soon expected great-granddaughter Pougnet of Grand Bay-Westfield. The eighth of twelve children, Norma is survived by her siblings: George (Elsie) of Coles Island, Anne Marie (Robert) Teskey of Ottawa, Freddie (Lynne) of Coles Island, Shirley (John) Holtz of Napanee and Mary-Jo (Wayne) LeClair of Coles Island and sister-in-law, Virginia Viger also of Coles Island; many nieces, nephews and a lifetime of wonderful friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Florence Sherriff, Adeline (Phillip) Duffley and her brothers, Gerard (in infancy), Alfie, Charlie (Dorothy) and Stanley (Eleanor). Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-1965) with visiting on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, Saint John on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 12:10 PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Rocmaura Foundation.
