Obituary of F. Graham Knoll

KNOLL-Dr. F. Graham It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of their dear father at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 27, 2005. Born in Sydney, N.S. on May 18, 1914, he was the son of the late William F. and Margaret (Graham) Knoll. He was educated in local schools and graduated from St. Vincent's Boys High School and Saint John High School. He studied at St. Joseph's University in Memramcook and received his undergraduate degree at St. Francis Xavier University, followed by his medical degree at Queen's University in 1941. He enlisted in the army as lieutenant during the Second World War and thereafter practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in Saint John, delighting in bringing new life into the world. He belonged to many associations, including Scouting Movement (King Scout status); Chairman of the Newman Club; President of the Saint John Branch of St. F. X. Alumni; President of the New Brunswick Medical Society; Board of Directors of both the Saint John General Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital; the Legion of Mary; the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Society; and served faithfully at the Evangeline Home. After retiring from private practice in 1964 he served as Senior Pensions Officer at the D.V.A. Hospital. He was an accomplished pianist who enjoyed teaching young people to play and was an avid gardener. Active in his church, he was organist choir member at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He touched the lives of many people and will be sadly missed. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Margery (McInerney) Knoll in 1999, and his brother, Raymond in 1971. He is survived by four daughters, Lynda Norman (William) of Darling's Island, Barbara Maitland (Alan) of Calgary, Jacqueline Atkinson (Anthony) of Castries, St. Lucia, West Indies, and Mary Foster (Douglas) of Prince Rupert, B.C.; one sister, Joan Stevens of Sarnia, Ont.; one brother, William (Florence) of New Glasgow, N.S.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Sunday from 7 to 9 and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, on Tuesday morning at twelve o'clock. Internment will take place in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery. Members of the Legion of Mary will pray the rosary on Monday afternoon at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rocmaura Garden Court, the Alzheimer Society , or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
