Obituary of James L. McCarthy

McCARTHY-the death of James L. McCarthy Sr. of 791 Cumberland Rd., Passekeag, husband of Catherine M. (Carvell) McCarthy, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, August 20, 2003. Mr. McCarthy was born in Boston, a son of the late James and Beatrice (McSherry) McCarthy, and had resided the greater part of his life in Saint John. He had been employed as manager with Calp's and Weizel's until his retirement a number of years ago. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was pre-deceased by a brother, George McCarthy, and a sister, Rita McCarthy. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son James L. Jr. (Suzanne) of Quispamsis; two daughters, Elizabeth James (Dennis) of Passekeag, and Linda Bonnell (Peter) of Calgary; one brother, Alphonse McCarthy of Dartmouth, N.S.; two sisters, Margaret Dean of Dartmouth, and Louise Meighen of Montreal; four grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday morning at 10:30.
