Obituary of Mary Merchant

MERCHANT-the death of Mary Merchant, widow of Frederick M. Merchant, occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home, on Thursday, October 20, 2005. Mrs. Merchant was born in Glace Bay, N.S., a daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (MacNeil) Prendergast. Mary received her early education in Glace Bay and a nursing diploma from the New Waterford General Hospital. After her family was grown, she worked as an R.N. in St. Joseph's Hospital, Saint John (5th floor) for several years. She was pre-deceased by twelve siblings. Left to mourn their mother are her son, Frederick A. (Sheila) of Victoria, B.C.; her two daughters, Leone Cadegan-MacLellan (David) of Halifax, and Suzanne Cosgrove (Daniel) of Saint John. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Greg, Leone, and Andree Merchant, Jacqueline Van Someren, and Mark and Brian Cosgrove; and two great-granddaughters, Hannah Merchant and Danielle Cosgrove. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Saturday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
