Obituary of Gerard Christopher Clarke

The death of Gerard Christopher 'Gerry' Clarke of The Turnbull Nursing Home, husband of Doris M. (Kemble) Clarke, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday December 30, 2005. Born January 5, 1923 in Liverpool England, Gerry was a son of the late Christopher and Florence (Gallagher) Clarke. Gerry was a veteran of the 2nd World War and had served with the British Merchant Navy. He began his career as a firefighter and retired as District Fire Chief in 1986 after 36 years of service. He was predeceased by an older brother, Frank Clarke. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Maureen Anne and her husband Dr. Herb Mitton of Saint John; a son, John Clarke and Karen Higgins of Morrisdale; a sister, Florance Matthews of Holywell, North Wales; a brother, Bernard Clarke and his wife Muriel of Pickering, Ont.; five grandchildren, Christopher and Jeff Hamilton, and Scott, Stephen, and Kristen Clarke; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Monday from 4 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday morning at 12 o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A Legion tribute will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
