Obituary of Eric Gilbert McIllwraith

McILLWRAITH-Eric Gilbert McIllwraith formerly of Hillcrest Rd., Saint John, passed away peacefully in his 85th year on Monday, January 9, 2006, at Camp Hill Veterans' Centre, Halifax. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late William and Florence (Arseneau) McIllwraith. Eric was predeceased in 1982 by his wife, Marguerite (Nield) McIllwraith, whom he married in England while serving overseas during the Second World War with the Fort Garry Horse Tank Regiment. Until his retirement in 1986 he was Chief Stationary Engineer at Centracare Hospital in Saint John and before that worked as an engineer at Atlantic Sugar Refinery and Canada Packers. Eric was also predeceased by his sister, Doreen Duncan; and his brothers, William (Hilda), Albert, Gordon (Anna), John, and Stewart. He is survived by his three children, Thomas (Mary) of Halifax, Peter (Jill) of Markdale, Ont., and Susan Gallant of Trenton, Ont.; his sisters, Patricia (Sterling) Cunningham of Norton, Helen (Leslie) MacDonald of Rothesay, and Elizabeth (Eldon) Ferris of Saint John; his brothers Ronald (Barbara) of Saint John, and Robert (Joyce) of Quispamsis; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His cat, Herman, now lives in Halifax. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Serve will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Saint John, on Friday, January 27, 2006, at eleven o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A reception will follow in St. Ann's Church Hall. There will be no visitation at the request of the family.
