Obituary of Edgar J. Bastarache

The death of Edgar J. Bastarache of Ridgewood Veterans' Wing, husband of Lena E. M. (LeBlanc) Bastarache, occurred at his residence on Sunday, September 7, 2003. Mr. Bastarache was born in Moncton, a son of the late Frank and Melina (Gautreau) Bastarache, and had lived the greater part of his life in Saint John. He served overseas with the R.C.A.M.C. during the Second World War and following the war was employed as a nursing orderly at the Lancaster D.V.A. Hospital until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69; the Canadian Wildlife Federation; the Holy Name Society. He had been an avid baseball and hockey fan. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, David of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose de Lima Church on Monday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Memorial Service on Monday evening at seven o'clock.
