Obituary of Lloyd George Bates

BATES- the death of Lloyd George "Buzz" Bates (1923-2006) of 55 Smythe St., beloved husband of Florence (McPhee) Bates for 41 years, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, December 25, 2006. Mr. Bates was born in Toronto, a son of the late William and Maria (Greig) Bates, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He had been employed with Moore's Business Forms in Saint John and Eaton's in Toronto. He and Florence returned to Saint John in 1987. Lloyd served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War as a Sgt. Air Gunner. He was a very proud veteran and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Air Force Club. He was predeceased by his brothers, Hector, Leslie, Donald, and William Jr., and his sister, Gertrude. Besides his wife he is survived by several nephews and nieces, including special niece, Norma Jean Landry, and great-niece, Samantha Landry. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday from 7 to 9 and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday morning at twelve o'clock. Interment will take place in the Field on Honor in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Donations to the Alzheimer Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A Legion Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at seven o'clock.
