Obituary of James E. Fitzgerald

The death of James E. FitzGerald, C.A., husband for 53 years of Miriam A. (MacDonald) FitzGerald, occurred suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, November 10, 2003. Jim was born on June 26 , 1919 in Saint John, N.B., a son of the late Francis B. and Lillian B. (Flaherty) FitzGerald. He served with the R.C.A.F. from 1939 to 1945. Jim had been employed as an Internal Auditor with Revenue Canada for over 25 years until his retirement in 1974. Following retirement, he continued in private practice for a number of years. Jim was an Honourary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and was a former member of the Rockwood Park Golf Club, the Sussex Golf Club, and the Thistle Curling Club. Jim and Miriam had wintered in Fort Myers Beach, Fla. for the past twenty years. He was a man of strong faith and patiently accepted the physical limitations of the past few years. He was the last surviving member of his family. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, J. Blake and Dr. Gerald FitzGerald. Besides his wife, Miriam, he is survived by his devoted daughter, Ann Marie FitzGerald of Calgary; two sisters-in-law, Helen Emery of Moncton and Jacqueline FitzGerald of Ottawa and their respective families. In Saint John Jim was assisted and is survived by his nephew Bob and wife Karen FitzGerald and their family. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday morning at twelve o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
