Obituary of Sister Mary A. J. Callahan

CALLAHAN-the death of Sister Mary A. J. Callahan (Sr. M. Francis Clare) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Sister was born in Woodstock, N.B., a daughter of the late Daniel and Elva(Sharkey) Callahan. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on May 24, 1940. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Brunswick and an M.S. in Education from Fordham University in New York. Sister Callahan taught at St. Peter's Girls' School, Holy Trinity School, St. Patrick's School, and St. Vincent's Girls' High School in Saint John. For three years during her teaching time at St. Vincent's she also served as Guidance Counsellor. Following early retirement due to ill health, Sister Callahan served as a tutor and mentor for many individuals, both children and adults, in Edmonton, Alberta, and Saint John. She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Imogene Goode (Harry). Sister is survived by several cousins. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Evening Vigil Service will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent's Chapel on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
