Obituary of Sister Audrey J. Darrah

DARRAH- the death of Sister Audrey J. Darrah (Sr. Jean Marie) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Sister was born in Saint John, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Margaret (Dolan) Darrah. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on February 2, 1939. A teacher by profession, Sister Darrah taught school at St. Patrick's Orphanage, St. Patrick's, Assumption, and Holy Trinity Schools in Saint John. She also taught at St. Mary's Indian School in Fredericton and at the Tobique Reserve School in Maliseet, N.B. After thirty-five years of teaching, Sister Darrah was involved in Volunteer work in Saint John and in catechetical ministry in Saint John and Berwick, N.S. Sister ministered at St. Peter's Home, an emergency shelter for children, and as a receptionist at Rocmaura Nursing Home. She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph H., John L., and Patrick Darrah; and eight sisters, Mrs. Catherine Muckler, Miss Helen M. Darrah, Miss Dorothy T. Darrah, Miss Ada G. Darrah, Mrs. Mary Sprague, Miss Paula Darrah, Sister Florence Darrah, and Miss Jean Darrah. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Vigil Service will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent's Chapel on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters' of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
