Obituary of Anna Theresa George

The death of Anna Theresa George of 60 Wentworth St., wife of Dr. Frederick H. George, occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, January 5, 2004, following a brief illness. Mrs. George was born in Saint John on October 11, 1928, a daughter of the late William J. and Ellen 'Nellie' (McCarthy) Petersen. Following her graduation from St. Vincent's Girls High School, she obtained a business diploma prior to entering St. Joseph's Nursing School. She completed post-graduate surgical courses at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, before returning as Operating Room Supervisor at St. Joseph's Hospital in Saint John. In the early 1970's she completed a refresher course and returned to her nursing career for a period of time. On July 14, 1952 Anna married Dr. Frederick George and went onto her next career as a wonderful wife and mother. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Edgar Petersen; and four sisters, Mrs. Eileen Moore, and Phyllis, Margaret, and Mary Petersen. Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons Dr. Charles (Sharon) of London, Ont., and Michael (Janice) of Saint John; her daughters, Dr. Mary Catherine (Dr. Shiva Singh) of London, Ont., and Anna Marie (James) Hancock of Medicine Hat., Al.. She was a loving grandmother to Sarah, Alexandra, Wesley, and Christopher George of London Ont.; Conor, Victoria, and Benjamin George of Saint John; Poonam Singh of London, Ont.; and Katelynn and Jaime Hancock of Medicine Hat. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home ,100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday morning at twelve o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
